Vicinity only sends proximity alerts between people who are mutual friends. Adding someone is straightforward, and they must accept before any alerts are exchanged.
Sending a friend request
- 1Open Vicinity and tap the People icon at the bottom.
- 2Tap Add Friend and search by name or username.
- 3Tap the person you want to add and confirm the request.
- 4Wait for them to accept — you won't receive proximity alerts until they do.
Accepting a friend request
- 1Open Vicinity and tap the bell icon or Friends tab.
- 2Pending requests appear at the top of the list.
- 3Tap Accept to confirm or Decline to dismiss.
Removing a friend
To remove someone from your friends list, open their profile and tap Remove Friend. Once removed, neither of you will receive proximity alerts for the other. The other person is not notified that you removed them.
Proximity alerts are always mutual. If you remove someone, you also stop appearing nearby to them.
