Vicinity gives you complete control over your visibility. You can go fully dark, limit access to specific friends, or stay open to everyone on your friends list.
Ghost Mode
Ghost Mode pauses all proximity detection for your account. While active, no friends will receive alerts when you're nearby — and you won't receive any either. It's a full blackout, great for when you want to be out in the world without Vicinity knowing.
- 1Open Vicinity and go to your Profile tab.
- 2Tap the Ghost Mode toggle at the top of the screen.
- 3A ghost icon will appear in the app header while active.
- 4Toggle it off to resume normal proximity detection.
Per-friend visibility
You can hide your presence from specific friends without removing them. This lets you keep the friendship in the app while preventing proximity alerts between the two of you.
- 1Open the friend's profile in the Friends tab.
- 2Tap the three-dot menu in the top right.
- 3Select Hide My Location from this Friend.
- 4To restore, repeat the steps and select Unhide.
- The other person is not notified when you hide your location from them.
- Hiding your location from a friend is one-way — they can still appear nearby to you unless they've also hidden from you.
