You don't have to treat all friends the same in Vicinity. You can mute alerts for specific people or hide your location from them on a case-by-case basis.
Muting alerts from a specific friend
- 1Open the Friends tab and tap the friend's name.
- 2Tap the three-dot menu in the top right of their profile.
- 3Select Mute Proximity Alerts.
- 4To undo, repeat the steps and tap Unmute.
When muted, you won't receive a notification when that friend is nearby. They will still receive an alert when you're near them, unless they've also muted you.
Hiding your location from a friend
Hiding goes both ways — neither party receives alerts. This is different from muting, where the other person may still be notified.
- 1Open the friend's profile.
- 2Tap Hide My Location from this Friend.
- 3Alerts between both of you stop immediately.
The other person is never notified that you've muted or hidden your location from them.
